Welcome to The Hundred Year Bungalow
In 1928, someone built this bungalow to last a lifetime. It did.
We could have knocked it down. Instead we kept the rooflines, the verandah, the pillars and much of the original plan, and rebuilt everything behind them to a standard almost no house in Australia is built to. It's Passivhaus Design Stage Approved and soon to be fully certified.
It runs on sunshine. It's warm in July and cool in February without the heater or the air conditioner doing much at all. The air inside is filtered, dry and free of mould.
None of it is exotic. Almost every choice we made is available to just about any family home new construction or deep renovation project in Melbourne.
One hundred years down. One hundred to go.
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Bunnurong people of the Kulin Nation who have lived and cared for the land on which our house stands for many thousands of years. We value the deep connection they have with Country and appreciate the knowledge and wisdom that they share with us and many others as we being the process of healing the land and the life which it sustains.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.
We recognise that First Nations sovereignty over this land has never been ceded.
